JSPH BS pays hommage to the live work and person of the German artist Joseph Beuys.
By bringing together accordion, electronics and a DJ on his turntables, Resonator creates a soundscape for and with Beuys.
Different works and lectures of the artist serve as inspiration and vision for this performance. Their atmosphere is put into a new context through sound and image.
The prosody of his voice, the rhythm of his face become the foundation of the audiovisual performance.
Pictures and documentations of Beuys’ works were tranformed into sounds through technology. Fragments of audiorecorings of his voice lay the groundwork for the audio of this Resonator piece.
Listeners and spectators experience an environment that consists of new interpretations and samples taken from Beuys’ life and works.
The music is supported by a video-abstraction; images that were partly generated from the music or images that generate the sounds for JSPH BS themselves.
These images are projected on a screen and on to TV-sets behind the stage and among the audience as they correspond to the music.
Light, rhythm and sound, merged with the musicians and the DJ become a multitimbral entity.
This performance will not be reproducible, for example the dubplates the DJ uses will be destroyed by playing them back on a record player.
